One of the main separatist guerillas in the world has just suffered a historic defeat. After more than 25 years of insurgency, the Tamil Tigers lost control of their territory while several of their bosses (including their leader Velupillai Prabhakaran) have been killed after the Sri Lankan army offensive. As the Tamils have a language, alphabet, and so different from the majority Buddhist sinhalesa creed, the Tigers asked for that on the coast, East and North of the country to establish the Eelam (a tamil Republic). President Mahinda Rajapaksa lanka claims to have managed to re-establish its control throughout the country and have conjured up the danger of Sri Lanka to follow the path that led to the division of other medium (such as Cyprus, Ireland and East Timor) Islands military. More than 70,000 people have died in the conflict and the Sri Lankan Government has been accused of war crimes. The Tigers have been crushed though it is possible that they retract into guerrillas, while there are still some 70 million Tamils in the India and the world (some with great influence in) (capitals such as London, where for weeks dominate the Parliament Square) in where you can get various forms of support. To avoid that then explode ethnic violence, several powers advise Sri Lanka granted forms of autonomy to Tamil areas. Isaac Bigio is an international analyst.
